American Psychological Association Presidential Citation to Jean Lau Chin, EdD
For her abiding interest, vision and career-long commitment to promoting scholarship on the topic of women and leadership.  The first Asian dean at two universities, Dr. Chin has herself held many leadership roles throughout her distinguished career as a means to bring about change.  She was the first Asian American psychologist to be licensed in the state of Massachusetts.  Dr. Chin’s leadership activities have included serving as president of APA Division 35, Society for the Psychology of Women, and of APA Division 45, Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues, and of the Division of Women’s Issues of the New York State Psychological Association. Aware of the interconnectedness of gender and race, Dr. Chin has been committed and dedicated to promoting cultural competence, and is a proponent of the belief that cultural competence should be implemented from a systemic perspective, not only with clinicians or faculty, but also with overreaching government policies.  Her extensive scholarship, mentorship, teaching and leadership reflect her commitment to the discipline of psychology.  In recognition of her many important contributions to psychology, the American Psychological Association presents Dr. Chin this Presidential Citation.
