What's new about leadership?

DIVERSITY LEADERSHIP SUMMIT and LEADERSHIP TRAINING VIDEO

A training video on Leadership Training: Global and Diverse Perspectives addresses diverse and global leadership, multiple and intersecting identities (i.e., gender, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation), and how diversity influences leader identity, leadership style, contexts, and leadership processes.  It includes varying perspectives about how diversity is incorporated into effective leadership for a global and diverse society.  Developed from a Leadership Diversity Summit in 2013 (LDS) cosponsored by six American Psychological Association Divisions (13, 14, 35, 45, 51, 44), this video identifies a process for leadership development that is self-reflective and validating of diversity for effective leadership.

As Chin & Eagly note, “…the omission of diversity about leaders and followers in terms of culture, gender, race and ethnicity, or sexual orientation...has weakened the ability of research and theory to address some of the most provocative aspects of contemporary leadership, including (a) their limited access to leadership

roles; (b)how leaders’ behavior are shaped by their dual identities as leaders and members of gender, racial, ethnic, or other identity groups; and (c) their potential to provide excellent leadership because of their differences.”(American Psychologist, April 2010, p. 216)
