PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE, HARMONY AMIDST DIFFERENCES, AND WELL-BEING OF ALL GROUPS AND PEOPLE
PRESIDENT’S COLUMN - International Council of Psychologists
2018 GREETINGS to everyone as we celebrate our blessings and the wonderful international network we have through ICP, Inc.
As I see the growing instances of terrorism throughout the world, the unveiling of sexual assaults toward women in our corporations, government, and entertainment industries, and the nuclear threats made by our leaders, I ponder whether the alpha males styles of leadership is live and well. We must do better as ICP to mobilize a better way of asserting our presence on this earth and PROMOTING THE VALUES OF PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE, HARMONY AMIDST DIFFERENCES, AND THE WELL-BEING OF ALL GROUPS AND PEOPLE.
I hope ICP activities will advance these objectives as Andrew Simon is working to build our membership base while Sandra Neil is building our area chair and interest groups as we celebrate 75 years of a vibrant ICP. IF YOU HAVE NOT YET GOTTEN YOUR COPY OF OUR 75TH ANNIVERSARY RESOURCE VOLUME ON INTERNATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY, edited by Harold Takooshian, Florence Denmark, Uwe Gielen and Ann Marie O’Roark, PLEASE DO.
CONFERENCE IN MONTREAL
We are preparing for a robust 2018 with our upcoming CONFERENCE IN MONTREAL under the able coordination of President Elect Natalie Porter and Local Arrangements Chair Ada Sinacore. ICP,INC.’S annual meeting and scientific program will occur on June 23-26 just before the International Congress of Applied Psychology[IAAP: ICAP2018].
ICP,INC’s program theme is Human Rights, Dignity, and Social Justice. In a world of growing economic inequality, global migration and refugee crises, and persistent human rights violations, the 2018 ICP theme addresses psychologists’ contributions to human well-being and resilience globally through our science, practice, and advocacy.
JOIN US IN MONTREAL
Our International Leadership Network will reconvene there with a group of 25 researchers collaborating on Global and Diverse Leadership. We are compiling a compendium of interviews of diverse leaders to examine how leadership is influenced by the social identities, life narratives, and social contexts; more importantly of the kinds of leadership needed to build a sustainable society.
CHANGE IS INEVITABLE
Thanks to Arthur Roh who has done a great job as our interim Secretary General and helped ICP,INC’s search for a permanent Sec.Gen. to be successful. It is my pleasure to announce that the Board has negotiated a three year contract with Merry Bullock to serve as permanent Secretary General, beginning January 1, 2018. She comes well qualified, being no stranger to international psychology as the former Director of the Office of International Affairs at the American Psychological Association. She will do an incredible job in building our international presence and facilitating association activities and management.
I ASK YOU TO JOIN ME IN WELCOMING DR. BULLOCK TO HER NEW POSITION IN THE COUNCIL.
